Mel GibsonAnd then there were the reports about Mel Gibson visiting the Island of the Gods, letting his hair down like Mad Max during his best times. Actually attending a seminar of Alcoholics Anonymous, it didn’t appear to be his motto later on that evening.

Air Asia X CrewAwhile ago we were discussing, if it’s a wise or safe decision to fly a Budget Carrier long-haul. However your opinion is about that subject - luckily time didn’t stop and some of the usual suspects seem to follow through with the idea.

Even if you don’t like the idea to fly long-distance or intercontinental flights with a no-frills airline; it surely would mean more competition and hopefully lower prices for all of us.

So what’s the news?

It seems that there is some movement in the sector, Asian Aviation pioneer Tony Fernandes looks like he’s teaming up with creative aviation individualist Richard Branson, to really make cheaper long-distance flights possible for everyone.

Qantas LogoThe private equity group trying to take over Australian airline Qantas has admitted that its bid has failed.

Airline Partners Australia (APA) said that while it had valid claims to revive the deal, it would avoid a long litigation process and pull out now. APA had bid A$11bn ($9bn) for the airline, but missed a deadline for gaining sufficient shareholder support.

Qantas shares plummeted almost 4% when trading opened on Tuesday, in response to the weekend’s events. Despite the failed bid, APA has still left itself open to considering a fresh offer for Qantas.

The Perfect Beach - a far cry away?Ever since having read Alex Garlands ‘The Beach’ in a bamboo beach hut on Honduras’ Roatan island in Latin America, I was possessed with the idea that there must be a ‘Perfect Beach’ for everyone of us on this our beautiful planet.

So I began to look out for nice getaways in white sandy bays with crystal clear waters on my travels.

I thought the Caribbean, Egypt, Australia or the West Coast of the US would be great places to settle down one day.

First Thailand, almost the Philippines and now Fiji. It seems that in Asia, coups are becoming more common in recent times again. So far it looks, like it could be a bloodless coup in Fuji as well. But one really has to worry, on what’s going on in the heads of those militarists. It can’t be good for a country’s reputation, economy and tourism to stage a coup at all against democratically elected governments. Whenever someone hates the government, you cannot just take it over. Read on for today’s latest developments:

Sydney HarbourLiving in a tropical, South-east Asian climate, we tend to take for granted the heat and humidity - things that dwellers in the temperate regions gladly welcome and call “summer”.

For Australians, it’s a season everyone’s been waiting for all year. And that’s why it’s cause for celebration.

Beginning in December, the Australian summer lasts till the end of February and is packed with fun-filled events and activities perfect for the Singaporean family.
