Awhile ago we were discussing, if it’s a wise or safe decision to fly a Budget Carrier long-haul. However your opinion is about that subject - luckily time didn’t stop and some of the usual suspects seem to follow through with the idea.
Even if you don’t like the idea to fly long-distance or intercontinental flights with a no-frills airline; it surely would mean more competition and hopefully lower prices for all of us.
So what’s the news?
It seems that there is some movement in the sector, Asian Aviation pioneer Tony Fernandes looks like he’s teaming up with creative aviation individualist Richard Branson, to really make cheaper long-distance flights possible for everyone.

Can you imagine the capitols or countries of Asia as women? No? That is what blogger Indcoup did recently. What a funny idea! But it gets better. Why not start with that and add the vitae of more and other visited places? Here is how it goes - read on:
“I think it would help to imagine Jakarta as some sort of a woman. And in that case I reckon that despite being a bit low in the IQ department, painstakingly slow at doing anything and a compulsive chain smoker to boot - you’d still be drawn to her more positive attributes like her deep cleavage, long jet black hair and happy-go-lucky attitude.

For a couple of years now so-called no-frills Airlines are mushrooming around the planet. Starting with the mother of budget airlines - Southwest - in the US. In Europe there was a tough fight of competition with the likes of RyanAir, Aer Lingus, Easyjet, GO and others for the last few years.
Low-cost, no-frills carriers mushrooming around the globe

I used to pay around 400-600 Euro for my Health Insurance - per month! Not that I didn’t try to reduce that or even get around it at all. Why not pay for what you use only?
But back in my home country Germany, you have no choice. You have to pay for a health insurance and you basically pay for it with an arm and a leg. That is, if you earn a good income. The service you receive, when things go wrong, can range from mediocre to great, although you have limited influence, on which doctor or hospital to chose.

PANAJI, India ~ The once low-budget tourist haven of Goa is facing a crisis, environmentalists say, as developers force up land prices and a tourism boom threatens the delicate coastal ecology.
Environmental groups in this former Portuguese enclave, which became part of India in 1961, have joined ranks in an effort to slow the building boom in sleepy towns and remote villages dotting the edge of Arabian Sea.
Taken aback by swelling protests against hotels and apartments sprouting across Goa, the local government has promised to retain the colonial-era character of India’s most popular holiday spot.

Some of you may have found the site already in my Links: www.overlandtours.de, this is my good friend and ex-colleague Steffen, with whom I worked several years (6,7 or 8? Oh my!) in Germany and Singapore, when we both were still employed.
He is currently on his way to India, with a couple of old, but colourful ‘Bundeswehr‘ (german army) trucks and half a dozen people on motorbikes. They passed already Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Iran - currently trying to pass through Pakistan. It’s kind of like a serviced journey, with some experienced travellers organizing the whole trip for the others. The organizers planned the whole route over the last months, took/take care of the places to stay overnight (safe places for camps and hostels only from case to case), border crossings, Visa management and shopping for common cooking.
